Fall Enrichment

Math Enrichment, Puzzles
and Equations

 
Below is a short description of the enrichment activity to be offered in Fall 2010. This year for the first time, we are offering semester long activities only. Please note however that there are variable start dates and number of meetings dependant on the school calendar. Sign up for all activities will be VIA THE SCHOOL OFFICE and not directly to the vendor. Please complete the attached form and write your check payable to SSDS. NO CHILD WILL BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND AN ACTIVITY UNLESS PAYMENT HAS BEEN MADE IN FULL BY THE FIRST CLASS DATE. If the class does not make the minimum number of participants, the fee for that class will be refunded by SSDS.

MATH ENRICHMENT: PUZZLES AND EQUATIONS (WEDNESDAYS)
A new combination class for students in grades 2 - 5 who like math. Sheila Glazer, certified Teacher of Gifted, is the teacher/sponsor. Some of the sessions will be intended for math puzzles and critical thinking skills, some will be devoted to learning and playing Equations* (a mathematical thinking and strategy game), and some will be "choice" sessions. Some of the students may choose to attend the annual Equations Competition sponsored by the Gifted Resource Council that will take place in March 2011. SSDS students have been attending this competition with Mrs. Glazer since 2003. There will be a registration fee for this event (fee is collected in December. Math Enrichment members will be provided more information about this competition.
